A very rare Rolex Oyster Precision Pre-Explorer called "Ovettone" by Italian Collectors meaning "Big Egg" as its effectionately known with its large oval caxseback built to accomadate the automatic movement. Thr watch is uncommon in size for the era. Rolex primarily, were making 33mm bubblebacks, and these were the Mac Daddy of the Oyster line featuring a monobloc (one piece) case measuring 36mm excluding the crown.
The reference 6098 was known as the Pre-Explorer as it was the watch supplied by Rolex and used on the successful Everest expedition in 1953 that led to the launch of the iconic Explorer watch.
The dial has uncommon "Pyramid" square gilt sunken markers which are truly gorgeous on that 'non lume' parchment aged manuscript dial with gilt leaf hands.
The watch is in excellent shaoe for its age, and running perfectly with strong amplitude.
The watch comes paired on a brown calf grain strap and our company watch pouch.
