Up for sale is a truly stunning 1950s Omega Seamaster, reference 2846-12 SC, featuring one of the most attractive and seldom-seen dial configurations we have encountered on this reference.
The standout feature is undoubtedly the remarkable two-textured dial, with a deep black honeycomb centre contrasted beautifully by a smooth gloss outer section. The dial is finished with applied white-gold 12, 3, 6 and 9 numerals, faceted hour markers and classic dauphine hands. Over the decades, the luminous material has developed a wonderful deep pumpkin-hued patina, giving the watch tremendous warmth and character.
Honeycomb dials were produced in relatively small numbers and are considerably less common than the standard dial configurations found on Seamasters of this period. Finding one preserved this well is particularly difficult, and good examples are highly prized by collectors.
The stainless-steel case remains in fantastic condition for its age, retaining definition to the faceted lugs and the original clover-style Omega crown. To the reverse is the wonderfully oversized Seamaster seahorse emblem, one of the most characterful case-back designs Omega produced during the period.
Reference 2846-12 SC features Omega's waterproof snap-back case and is powered by the full-rotor automatic calibre 501 movement. This example has also just recently been serviced and is running beautifully.
These watches are very seldom encountered with this particular two-textured honeycomb dial configuration and, when preserved to this standard, command a deserved premium over more conventional Seamasters of the era.
A genuinely special vintage Omega: unusual, beautifully preserved and absolutely packed with 1950s character.
