1973 Rolex Datejust Ref. 1603 – Blue Sigma Pie-Pan Dial

An exceptionally attractive example of the classic Rolex Datejust, this 1973 reference 1603 is distinguished by its beautifully preserved blue satin Sigma pie-pan dial.

The dial is undoubtedly the highlight of this watch. Featuring a rich blue satin finish, applied 18ct white-gold hour markers and beautifully aged luminous plots, it offers a wonderful combination of colour, texture and vintage character. The presence of the Sigma markings is particularly noteworthy, denoting the use of precious-metal dial components.

Blue satin dials are especially susceptible to fading and deterioration over the decades, making examples that have retained their original character and finish increasingly desirable. This particular dial has survived remarkably well, retaining its lovely surface quality and striking blue appearance.

Housed in the timeless 36mm stainless-steel Oyster case, with its elegant proportions and classic 20mm lug width, the watch wears beautifully on the wrist. It is currently paired with a complementary desert calfskin strap, allowing the dial to take centre stage.

The reference 1603 remains one of the most enduring vintage Datejust configurations, and examples featuring Sigma-marked pie-pan dials possess a particular appeal among collectors who appreciate the finer details of vintage Rolex production.

Accompanying the watch is a USA Rolex Jubilee clasp. Please note that this is supplied without end links and is not fitted as a complete bracelet.

A wonderfully characterful vintage Datejust, with an especially attractive dial and the timeless proportions that have made the reference 1603 such an enduring classic.
