Up for sale is a beautiful 1959 Omega Seamaster Pre De Ville, reference 14765, featuring a particularly attractive and seldom-seen two-texture silvered concentric circle dial.
The central portion of the dial is finished with incredibly fine brushed concentric rings, contrasting beautifully against the outer section and giving the dial a wonderful depth as it catches the light. It is complemented by unusual applied white-gold coffin-shaped hour markers, with double coffins at 12, a configuration we very seldom encounter on this reference and one that gives the watch a distinctly late-1950s character.
The reference 14675 features Omega's sleek monocoque stainless-steel case, complete here with its original knurled Omega crown. Remarkably, the original plexiglass also remains in place, retaining the tiny floating Omega logo at its centre.
One of the great characteristics of this reference is how large it appears on the wrist. The relatively thin bezel allows the dial to occupy almost the entire face of the watch, giving it considerably more presence than its dimensions might suggest.
Completing the look is a lovely period Omega 1503 beads-of-rice bracelet with clip-block clasp, which suits the watch beautifully and gives it that unmistakable vintage Omega aesthetic.
For us, the late 1950s and very early 1960s represent one of the most interesting periods of Seamaster production. Omega experimented extensively with dial textures, hour markers, handsets and finishes, resulting in a huge number of subtle variations. It is within these details that some of the real jewels of vintage Omega collecting can be found.
We previously featured another Seamaster with these distinctive applied coffin markers, which generated considerable interest, so we are particularly pleased to have discovered another example—this time combined with the superb concentric two-texture dial.
Finding these watches preserved to this standard is becoming increasingly difficult, particularly with so many of the small original details still present.
A wonderfully characterful 1959 Seamaster and exactly the sort of unusual vintage Omega we love discovering here at Vision Vintage.
