  • Up for sale is a highly unusual and exceptionally attractive 1959 Omega Seamaster Calendar reference 2867, an oversized and scarce model believed by many collectors to have been produced for the Japanese market. Measuring large for the period, this reference has a remarkably commanding presence on the wrist and shares a visual DNA with the more utilitarian Omega sports models of the era, particularly through its substantial case architecture and oversized caseback medallion.

Produced only for a brief period between 1959 and 1960, these Seamaster Calendars stand apart from the conventional line and possess a number of characteristics unique to the reference. This example features the desirable non-luminous configuration, with elegant faceted Dauphine hands paired with applied faceted baton hour markers, creating a wonderfully clean and symmetrical aesthetic without interruption from lume plots.

The true star of the show, however, is the dial. Rather than the more commonly encountered silver or off-silver variations, this watch presents an absolutely captivating vertical pinstripe finish that changes character beautifully as it catches the light. We have not encountered another example with this specific dial configuration anywhere, making it potentially an extremely uncommon variation. It is further complemented by its original Omega-signed plexi featuring the circular cyclops date aperture, a wonderfully quirky period detail that only adds to the charm and individuality of the piece.

The originality continues throughout, retaining its correct Omega-signed crown and powered by the calibre 503 automatic movement, complete with its specific retaining ring arrangement designed to secure the movement assembly within the case. It is details such as these that remind you how different and thoughtfully engineered these watches were.

Examples of the reference are already seldom seen and increasingly appreciated by dedicated Omega collectors, with some commanding extremely strong prices when they appear. Make no mistake — these are not watches that surface often, and finding one with such distinctive characteristics only elevates its appeal further. For the passionate Omega enthusiast, this represents one of those fascinating oddities that sits far outside the mainstream and offers the opportunity to own something genuinely unusual. At Vision Vintage Watches, these are precisely the kinds of pieces we love to discover: rare, charming and just a little different from the norm.
