One of the most beautiful examples of a Omega Breguet number bumper from the 1950s. Outstanding dial with unpolished case and original rare Omega buckle and leather coffin box.
1950s Omega Breguet Numerals
If your tastes lean towards the understated elegance of the Art Deco era, then this remarkable early Omega is sure to captivate. Produced just before the official introduction of the Seamaster line, it already possesses many of the design cues that would go on to define one of Omega’s most celebrated collections.
The beautifully preserved stainless steel case remains wonderfully sharp, retaining what appears to be its original unpolished flanks and elegant flowing lyre lugs. These longer, more refined lugs give the watch a grace and presence on the wrist that many collectors feel was never quite replicated by the later Seamaster references. Completing the profile is the original oversized “bowler” crown, a charming and increasingly scarce feature that perfectly complements the watch’s mid-century character.
The dial is simply exquisite. Applied steel dagger hour markers, filled with richly aged pumpkin-toned radium, are paired with matching radium-filled dauphine hands that have developed a beautiful warmth over the decades. Adding another layer of rarity are the applied Breguet numerals at 12, 3, 6, and 9 — an uncommon and highly attractive detail that elevates the overall aesthetic.
Built with a robust screw-back waterproof case, this watch embodies the transitional period where Omega was refining the formula that would become the legendary Seamaster. It is offered with a period-correct new old stock bracelet, not Omega-signed but exceptionally well suited to the watch, along with its original Omega pin buckle and charming leather coffin presentation box.
Elegant, beautifully proportioned and preserved to an exceptional standard, this is a superb example of an early Omega that bridges the gap between pre-Seamaster design and the icon that would follow.
