Up for sale is a fantastic and genuinely unusual 1969 Rolex Datejust reference 1603. Housed in its classic stainless steel Oyster case, this example features the engine-turned bezel, Oyster screw-down crown, and a beautifully aged original dial that has developed into a rich salmon tone with deep, warm patination throughout.

 

What makes this watch particularly special is the dial. Most examples of the 1603 are seen with silver sunburst dials, but this one has transformed over time into something far more distinctive, shifting from salmon to a deeper orange hue in direct sunlight. It gives the watch an entirely different character on the wrist and sets it apart from the vast majority of standard Datejusts on the market.

 

Adding further appeal, the watch is accompanied by an excellent amount of original paperwork, including its original Rolex guarantee booklet, original purchase receipt, and old Rolex service receipts. It also retains its inner and outer Rolex box, all of which help build a highly attractive and increasingly hard-to-find package.

 

The watch is fitted to a later Jubilee bracelet in good condition and wears exactly as a vintage Datejust should: elegant, versatile, and full of charm, but with the added bonus of a dial that gives it real individuality.
