Here we present a superb and exceptionally rare 1960s Multicron Galé Decimal Chronograph, a true connoisseur’s piece from the golden era of sports chronographs.
Housed within is the revered Excelsior Park Calibre 40, a manual-winding movement with 17 jewels — celebrated among collectors for its robust architecture, crisp chronograph engagement, and refined finishing. Excelsior Park supplied movements to some of the most respected maisons of the period, and the Cal. 40 remains one of the most satisfying column-wheel chronograph calibres to operate.
The dial is where this watch truly distinguishes itself. A vertically brushed silver surface catches the light with depth and texture, contrasted by a vivid red decimal scale — a functional detail designed for industrial and scientific timekeeping. The oversized “big eye” sub-dials create beautiful visual asymmetry while enhancing legibility, a hallmark of purposeful 1960s chronograph design.
Blue steel stick hands add a flash of restrained colour against the monochromatic dial, while the sharp, unpolished 37.5mm case features elegant lyre lugs — still retaining their factory definition. The original pushers and crown remain intact, complemented by a screw-back case that speaks to the tool-watch ethos of the era.
Decimal chronographs were produced in far smaller numbers than their tachymeter or telemeter counterparts, making surviving examples such as this particularly elusive. For the purist collector, this Multicron Galé represents everything that defines the 1960s chronograph heyday — mechanical integrity, purposeful design, and understated rarity.
A seldom-seen and highly compelling piece of horological history.
