  • Here we have an absolutely captivating mid-century Eterna-Matic “Ciocclatone,” dating to the golden era of 1950s design, where form and function met in effortless harmony.

Housed in a full stainless steel case, this example retains its original ball-bearing crown—an innovation synonymous with Eterna’s pioneering automatic movements, first introduced in 1948 and a hallmark of the brand’s technical pedigree. The case itself is a study in restrained elegance, with pronounced Art Deco-inspired flared lugs that lend the watch a sculptural presence on the wrist—bold yet refined.

The dial is beautifully preserved, presenting a clean off-white tone that has aged with grace. Its layout is both balanced and distinctive, featuring an inner “pill” minute track paired with applied outer hour indices, offering depth and subtle dimensionality. The simplicity of the dial allows the design language of the era to speak clearly—understated, yet unmistakably sophisticated.

Adding to its appeal is the robust two-piece waterproof construction, secured via a screw-down case back with four screws positioned at each lug point—a design seldom seen and indicative of the period’s experimentation with durability and water resistance.

Oversized Ciocclatone cases are seldom encountered, particularly in such honest and original condition. This is a watch that bridges technical innovation with timeless aesthetics—an effortlessly chic piece that feels as relevant today as it did some seventy years ago.
