1960s Omega Constellation – Gloss Black Gilt Dial – Ref. 167.005
The gilt dials produced by Omega during the 1960s are unquestionably among the finest examples of dial craftsmanship from the period. Renowned for their remarkable depth, rich gloss finishes and beautifully defined gilt lettering, these dials possess a quality that is seldom replicated in modern watchmaking.
The extraordinary depth of the dial is achieved through a meticulous multi-stage finishing process, creating a striking contrast between the deep, mirror-like black surface and the shimmering gold lettering. The result is a dial that changes character beautifully under different lighting conditions.
This particular example, reference 167.005, is a wonderful representation of Omega’s golden era of watchmaking. Featuring the iconic stainless steel dog-leg case, elegant dauphine hands and beautifully applied gold hour markers, the combination of warm gilt tones against the glossy black dial is simply outstanding. The watch is in all original condition, with original crown and plexiglass.
As a chronometer-grade Constellation, the watch represents Omega’s commitment to precision and exceptional craftsmanship during the 1960s.
The stainless steel case retains its distinctive angular profile, while the case back features a strong and beautifully preserved engraving of the famous Geneva Observatory medallion, an important hallmark of the Constellation collection.
Completing the watch is a handmade honey-coloured calfskin strap, which perfectly complements the warmth of the gilt dial and applied gold furniture.
An exceptionally elegant and rare to find vintage Omega Constellation, combining one of the most desirable dial finishes of the period with the timeless proportions of the iconic dog-leg case.
