The Longines Silver Arrow was released around 1956, it was a homage to the ground-breaking, Mercedes Benz Formula 1 cars of the time, which were known for their speed, technological advancement and elegance.
The caseback logo of a supersonic plane flying amongst the stars was a nod to Longines association with aviation, as well as their understanding of technological advancements during these years.
The example we have here features a special original black dial with silver script, and an outer silvered ring with applied cell markers.
They featured alpha steel hands, and a steel lined date window.
The case is fashioned in stainless steel featuring a screwback waterproof case design, and in sharp, unpolished condition. The caseback has some placement wear which was common because the engravings were very shallow on these.
These watches were not common in black dial configuration, and seldom preserved as nicely as our example.
