These mysterious Rolex "Shantung" dials were supposedly only made for the Asian market between 1968 and 1978. Shantung is a woven silk fabric with an interesting texture. Rolex's Shantung dials have silk dials woven horizontally.
The dial looks like a small work of art and has incredible colour change as the dial catches the light, going from brown, and amber through to dark grey and accented by the gold hands and hour batons.
The case is also very unusual because it combines this dial design with a machined bezel which really gives this watch a unique feel on the wrist.
The watch comes on its original US jubilee and matching year inside the clasp.
