The Heuer Autavia, so named as a combination between the words ‘AUTomobile’ and ‘AVIAtion’, has been a stalwart of Heuer’s offering since its release as a wristwatch in 1962. The Autavia is the oldest of Heuer’s ‘big three’ models, pre-dating both the Carrera and Monaco. Built with cutting edge design and functionality in mind, the Autavia was a favourite for motorsports, worn by the likes of Jo Siffert, Jochen Rindt and countless others throughout the iconic racing era of the 1960s and 1970s particularly.
This particular example is a ref. 2446C GMT model, dating to the 1970s and featuring additional functionality in its Valjoux 724 movement and rotating "pepsi" bezel which has mellowed to a gorgeous "fuschia" tone. This is all housed in a steel "compression" case. This Autavia GMT incorporates the tracking of two separate timezones, alongside its traditional chronograph function. With the red accents, fluted pushers and larger stepped registers, this Mk4 example reflects Heuer’s first steps towards the bright colours and bold design choices seen in Autavias during the later 70s.
This watch is a very good example considering its well-preserved condition. The dial is in excellent condition, with micro ageing, and the case is in good condition with a few light scratches. There are a some small scratches to the plexiglass. The strap is a desert Pebro in like new condition. The watch is working well.
